How do you make yourself feel good?
It’s easy to slip into the train of thought of – *this person’s* actions have now made me feel a certain way, or “why is this happening to me”. The reality is, no one can make you feel anything.
When we say that we are triggered, we mean that something external has automatically created a reaction internally. This can manifest as being uncomfortable, upset or angry.
Any emotion that is inexplicably heightened can spiral into overthinking, extreme reaction and affect our reasoning.
This is the key; we all have these triggers because storing a strong emotional reaction is an integral part of our survival instinct.
We store experiences and their attached emotions as a protective measure. When we are feeling hurt, we can choose to either sit in that space or do something to make ourselves feel good instead.
