Setting healthy boundaries

Setting healthy boundaries. By setting a healthy boundary, you prioritise your wellbeing, your emotional health and stability.

A boundary is when you take charge and meaningfully decide what you do or do not wish to do, take part in or be around either physically, mentally and/or emotionally. They help keep your focus on what is really important to you as a person. They help you avoid burn-out and other people’s stress. When you define your boundary and communicate it without judgement or apology, your self-worth rises and resentment slips away. There is no need to justify or over-explain; by being honest with another (and with self), you keep life simpler and prioritise your own self-care.

Being clear about what you want is also very important. Once you have taken the time to figure out what you need from life (or don’t need!), boundaries become easier to set, they will automatically start to take place. Whilst getting used to setting healthy boundaries, it is a good idea to set yourself (or others) consequences should a boundary be broken. Keep the consequence realistic and do-able, but also keep it in place. Figure out what is really important to you in life, effectively communicating these needs to those around you in a respectful and honest manner and then see how your life changes.

It may feel a little alien to start with, it may trigger feelings of being selfish or too self-involved, but as you practise drawing the line, it gets easier.

However, if you would like a copy of our Feel to Achieve Matrix has practical solutions on how to organise your day to day tasks so you can understand how that impacts your boundaries. Leave me a PM here and I will email a downloadable copy to you.
