Relaxation – or is it?
How is your relaxation time? Are you finding some time to relax, chill and wind down?
Relaxation time, especially in this time of instanteous contact via smartphone and social media, is not always easy. Switching off sometimes literally means that, switch off the media and the phones.
Our body cleverly keeps us alive and surviving due to running the body systems automatically from behind the scenes. We are designed to work on automatic for a very good reason. The subconscious part of the brain takes over and keeps the fires burning in order for us to live. It reads a current situation (through various cell receptors, pathways, hormones etc..), and adapts to suit the need. The brain learns and even predicts requirements (ever wondered why at a certain time you may crave a coffee or sugar hit?.. yes, the body has adapted to that requirement). It’s such a clever vessel, I often stand in awe.
Our conscious brain feeds our subconscious. We experience a life event, our body reacts, behind the scenes, to keep us alive. For instance, we experience danger, our fight/flight response automatically kicks in. The body will then adapt to survive, it will learn and it may even start to predict and react once more, even though the danger has passed. Which may not be the best thing for our overall health as
